VinylFreak helps you identify any record and decide whether to buy it — right there in the shop or at the fair. There are two ways to scan:
Cover scans use AI to identify a record and cost one credit each. You get 20 free scans every calendar month, refreshed on the 1st. Barcode scans are always free and never use a credit. If an identification fails (the cover couldn't be recognised), you are not charged a credit.
Plus unlocks unlimited scans (subject to a generous fair-use cap that only exists to stop automated abuse). It's available monthly (US$2.99) or yearly (US$24.99). Prices may vary by region. Prefer a one-time option? A US$0.99 top-up pack adds 50 scans that never expire.
Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and you keep Plus until then.
First, open the app and try Restore Purchases from the paywall screen. Purchases are tied to the anonymous ID on your device, so make sure you're on the same device you bought on. If credits still don't show after a minute or two, email us with your purchase receipt and we'll sort it out.
All purchases are handled by the Apple App Store or Google Play, so refunds must be requested through them directly:
For best results, fill the frame with the cover, use even lighting, and avoid glare and reflections from the sleeve. Worn, bootleg, or very obscure pressings can be harder to match — if there's a barcode on the back, the barcode scan is the most reliable. You can also browse your scan history to re-open a previous result.
VinylFreak needs camera permission to scan. On iOS, enable it under Settings › VinylFreak › Camera. On Android, under Settings › Apps › VinylFreak › Permissions.
Previews are 30-second clips and depend on availability from our music provider — not every track has one. Check that your device isn't muted and that you have a working internet connection.
Your history and wantlist are stored only on your device and are not backed up to our servers. Reinstalling the app or switching devices will start them fresh.
